Toe-to-Toe Tongeren

description
From Tongeren, this 203 km loop runs east through the Jeker (Geer) valley to the Dutch border, then turns south to cross the Meuse near Liège and drop into the Ourthe valley at Esneux. It then bites into the Condroz, climbing past Anthisnes and grinding over the region's parallel ridges to its southern turn near Somme-Leuze (km 115) — the remotest, hilliest stretch, so carry water here. From there it works north-west back to the Meuse at Huy (km 145), the natural refuel halt. The run home rolls across the open Hesbaye plateau through Waremme's cereal fields to Tongeren. Fast loam lanes, relentless short Condroz climbs, hedgerow-lined descents, river crossings and wide arable horizons; around 2,000 m of total ascent.
